This work describes at a fundamental level the principles of Digital Image Processing, discussing signals, systems and information theory before applying these topics specifically to images. Great care is taken to stress those principles which appear in different contexts. It stresses very general mathematical principles, focusing upon the close connection with classical mathematical disciplines such as algebra, geometry and statistics. Recent developments in digital image processing are boiled down to their mathematical essence.
