Offshore engineers and managers must comply with additional restrictions set up with the Safety Environmental Management System (SEMS) and pass audits accordingly. However, regulations created only address the actual pass/fail audit checklist and don't prepare managers prior to the audit or instill a longer-term implementation solution so that operations remain in compliance long after the audit is over. An Operations Guide to Safety and Environmental Management Systems gives engineers and managers a vital tool to understand, prepare and manage the SEMS audits before, during, and after they are done. At the core of the book are 17 elements stemming from regulations which are broken down in parts to help management learn the compliance measures. Elements are supported by practical case studies that analyze past failures and lessons learned. Rounding out with a helpful glossary, abbreviations list and additional section of references, An Operations Guide to Safety and Environmental Management Systems gives offshore engineers and operators a clear and concise direction on how to perform key actions for their SEMS audits and run safer offshore operations long-term.

Offshore operations engineers and managers in the US OCS must comply with the requirements of the BSEE Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) and pass audits accordingly. However, the available reference materials have been primarily created for regulatory and audit personnel, while the implementation is the responsibility of operations. This leaves operations personnel on their own to interpret the SEMS requirements and to develop implementation plans. An Operations Guide to Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS): Making Sense of BSEE SEMS Regulations gives operations engineers and managers a vital tool to understand the SEMS requirements and priorities from an operations perspective. The core of the book is the 17 elements stemming from the BSEE SEMS regulations, which are broken down into parts to help operations management understand the keys to the compliance. The keys to operations understanding the elements are supported by "what good looks like" practical sections that are the composite of past failures and lessons learned. Rounding out with additional sections providing the history of SEMS and its relationship with ISO and process safety of references, An Operations Guide to Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS): Making Sense of BSEE SEMS Regulations provides offshore engineers and managers a clear and concise direction on how to perform key actions for their SEMS programs and run safer long-term offshore operations.
