Ahmad Azar is a Research Associate Professor at the Prince Sultan University, Riyadh, Kingdom Saudi Arabia. He is also an associate professor at the Faculty of Computers and Artificial intelligence, in Benha University, Egypt. He is the Editor in Chief of the International Journal of System Dynamics Applications (IJSDA), International Journal of Service Science, Management, Engineering, and Technology (IJSSMET), and International Journal of Intelligent Engineering Informatics (IJIEI), among others. He is currently Associate Editor of ISA Transactions, Elsevier, and the IEEE systems journal. Dr. Azar works in the areas of control theory & applications, process control, chaos control and synchronization, nonlinear control, renewable energy, computational intelligence.
There is an increasing number of researchers who fuse robotics and control engineering principles with the knowledge and tools of molecular life sciences in order to solve contemporary problems through the measurement, modelling, and rational manipulation of biological systems. These researchers are more rapidly creating biology-based technologies to benefit a range of diverse areas including human and environmental health, agriculture, manufacturing, and defense.
Recently, many researchers in controls and robotics have explored complicated problems arising from societal needs and concerns and directed leading-edge research teams to address those challenge problems, in which design and control of biofunctionalized systems based on measured biological responses are the central issue.
Biomedical Robotics and Bio-mechatronic Systems Applications delivers essential and advanced bioengineering information in the application of control and robotics technologies in the life sciences. In the next few years, there will be many more exciting developments in this area. Judging by what we have witnessed so far, this exciting field of control systems and robotics in bioengineering is likely to produce revolutionary breakthroughs over the next decade.
The book is intended for senior undergraduate or graduate students in both control engineering and biomedical engineering programs. It may also appeal to medical researchers and practitioners who want to enhance their quantitative understanding of physiological processes and perhaps get a new vantage point from which they can attack their current problems.
