Synopsis

Non-linear chromatography has become an important separation technique for preparitive and process-scale chromatographic applications in industry. This text provides a consolidated summary of the parameters necessary to the optimization of preparative chromotography, with detailed information on the design, economics and critical parameters of preparative separations. The illustrations turn difficult mathematics into easily understood pictures. The concepts outlined are illustrated through numerous examples.

Review

"It is this synergy between fundamental understanding and practical realization that is the message of this text. As a result, this book would be a worthwhile and welcomed addition to university and industrial libraries alike. There are many sacrifices involved in writing a book and sometimes the end product is not worth the effort consumed. That is not true in this case and the authors are to be congratulated for a job well done...This book will be a library staple for many years to come and is a good investment for the curious and serious practitioners of chromatography, particularly those interested in process and large scale separations." --Colin F. Poole, Analytical Chimica ACTA, Vol. 302 "I would add that this book is useful for all who want to have a general understanding of chromatography. There is a good balance between theory, modelling and experimental data and it contains a considerable amount of original work....They make an admirable effort to clearly describe the fundamentals and the assumptions of the different models before writing the corresponding equations." --TRENDS IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

About the Author

Professor Guiochon has been a Distinguished Scientist at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory since 1987. Born and educated in France, he was a Professor of chemistry at Ecole Polytechnique and at the University of Paris until 1984 when he moved to the USA. He has been working on nolinear and preparative chromatography since 1984. He has been awarded the 1978 Silver Medal of C.N.R.S.; Honarary Doctorates by the Technical University of Budapest (Hungary) in 1991 and by the University of Pardubice (Czech Republic) in 1999; the 1991 Separation Sciences Award and the 1998 Chromatography Award of the American Chemical Society; and the EAS Award in Separation Sciences in 2001. In 1994 he received an Alexander von Humboldt Award as a Senior American Scientist.
