Synopsis
Development control is facing pressing challenges. The number of development applications is 40% higher that it was 10 years ago, while recent changes in government policy have been unremitting and public interest in planning issues is very great. To meet these challenges, planning authorities must place greater focus on the quality of their processes and the quality of the outcome. This report from the Audit Commission addresses the problems and makes recommendations to ensure the quality development control in the future.
