The "White Cliffs of Dover" are probably the best known geological feature of the country around Ramsgate and Dover. This short memoir draws data from the numerous deep boreholes drilled in the Kent Coalfield, as well as other material, to give an account of the main geological features of the area A general description is given of the middle and upper chalk and the Thanet Beds as well as brief accounts of the stratigraphy and structure of the carboniferous limestone, coal measures, jurassic and lower cretaceous strate which underlie the chalk.
