The Forestry Commission has well-established principles of forest design which apply to a complete range of woodland types in relation to landform. These guidelines are intended to provide applicants for the Woodland Grant Scheme and applicants for felling licences with an outline of the principles and practical applications of forest design. Applicants should be aware of the importance of landscape in all aspects of forest planning and forest operations, and of the need to achieve a high standard of design, particularly in sensitive landscapes. The guidelines indicate what they should look out for, and situations which need special attention.
