There were over one million privately renting households in 1988. So who are these tenants? Are they more likely to be male or female? How old are they and from which socio-economic groups? What are the characteristics of their accommodation and what sort of tenancy agreements are in operation? Are the tenants satisfied with their accommodation? This survey, carried out by the Social Survey Division of OPCS on behalf of the Department of the Environment, examines these questions and others to provide an in-depth picture of the private renting sector.
