The ageing process and death are difficult subjects for children to deal with. However, as she has with several other books, Babette Cole manages to overcome taboos and give the whole ageing process her typically zany treatment. From learning to dribble, burping and potty training, through the trials and tribulations of the teenage years and first love, to marriage and parenthood, the 80-year-old bald, wrinkly narrators take the reader through the complete story of their life. Babette Cole combines spare text with wickedly funny illustrations to create a unique approach to the process of growing old. This is a perfect book for children and grandparents to share and makes a serious issue accessible to all ages. --Philippa Reece
