Synopsis
Sophie Lackland is the granddaughter of the great surgeon, Abel Lackland. She is twenty-one, alone in the world and virtually penniless. When a letter informs her of the death of her step-grandmother there is also news of a strange bequest. Armed with this and her ambition of becoming a doctor, Sophie sets off for London.
