Hamish MacInnes's International Mountain Rescue Handbook is widely regarded as the foundational modern manual for mountain rescue teams worldwide. It established a unified, technically rigorous approach to rescue work at a time when methods varied greatly between regions. MacInnes?already a leading figure in Scottish mountaineering and rescue?created the handbook to codify best practice in mountain search?and?rescue. The 1972 edition became the standard reference for professional and volunteer teams across Europe, North America, and the Andes. Its scope is deliberately encyclopaedic: "It is difficult to imagine any situation that this book does not cover," wrote Rocksport magazine, praising its completeness. Ref KK 4.
