Synopsis
The lives of most people in Britain, whether they realise it or not, have been touched by David Gentleman. From his many stamp designs, in which he gradually transformed the way the Queen appears, to his timeless corporate logos for companies such as British Steel and the famous Eleanor Cross murals as Charing Cross underground station, David Gentleman's art has both shaped and given voice to the changing design trends of five decades. In "Art Work", he gives a fascinating insight not only into his working methods, but also into the whole process of designing as an art, and art as a job. This major collection features his most significant commissions, highlighting the extraordinary breadth of his work and including stamps and posters, wood engraving and graphics, screen-prints and his trademark watercolours.

About the Author
David Gentleman is an artist of extraordinary breadth. His work has included watercolours, wood engraving, book illustrations and graphics. He designed the hundred-metre long Eleanor Cross mural at Charing Cross underground station and has designed over 100 postage stamps. He has had many solo exhibitions of watercolours and his many previous publications include the highly successful David Gentleman's Britain and its companion books on London, the British coastline, Paris, India and Italy.
