He has produced a unique study in which not only the weapons systems and their technology are examined but also the internecine strife between the services, each competing for a bigger share of the defence budget, and the impact of this and countless political cancellations on new projects.
The book ends on a timely warning against the dangers of succumbing to what the author calls 'technophilia', reminding us that, despite the widespread use of new technological wonders in the Gulf War, much of the weaponry used was based on technology going back tens of years.
