Wow! Great hate mail.
I'm impressed that every comment on the book says the same thing. Is there anyone out there who actually liked it? The sales numbers tell me that there are. However, the next edition will try to address some of these readers' concerns by removing some of the big-picture material in favor of more direct tutorials and how-tos plus a complete reference to the product. Readers should bear in mind, though, that Developer is a very sophisticated system that requires you to understand how things work under the covers to get into more advanced uses of the product. That's what the book tries to teach. I hope readers like the next edition better!
Synopsis
This updated edition covers all the tools and techniques needed to know to make of the powerful features of this new version of Developer/2000, such as development wizards, new GUI controls, and improvements in reuse capabilities. Readers are guided step-by-step through prototyping and delivering an application using robust tools, including Oracle Forms, Reports and Graphics. Part One begins with the basics of building applications, including a discussion of choosing an appropriate application development life cycle, some case studies of application development using the tools and tips on how to organize successful work. Part Two focuses on design and prototying, including a full dicussion of the new wizards and GUI design features of Developer/2000 forms, reports and graphics. It focuses on separate chapters on making your applications as reusable and as secure as possible.
