It seems like everyone is writing a book about e-commerce and the internet at the moment, even Carol Vorderman is at it! Peter Morath's take is scholarly, incredibly detailed and simply packed to bursting point with examples and theories about profitable Internet business and commerce. And this somehow presents us with a quandary. The Internet has forced us all to think quick and get our ideas over economically and rapidly. In the Internet world it's three clicks and you're dead. New ideas bubble up quickly and brilliantly. So why is it that the books about e-commerce are becoming increasing long and just a little indigestion-inducing? Surely this can't be right?
Okay, so put against an absolute rip snorter like Funky Business the kind of approach taken in Peter Morath's book won't shine, but if you have the time and inclination then Success @ e-business will give you all the detail you need about scoping e-businesses, innovations, responsibility cycles and project plans for business scenarios. It may not make you smile but it does contain real dogged detail about every aspect of setting up an e-business and there are many nuggets here that we can be thankful for. In football terms, it's Philip Neville to Beautiful Corporations' Figo or Petit, but the important thing is that it does the job. --Steve Morris
Peter Morath is employed by AMS on business development for telecom customer care & billing, customer value management and electronic commerce. He previously worked for Siemans and Actis on telecommunications and the development of banking software
