Larsen’s Advanced Accounting provides complete and in-depth coverage of the topics typically taught in a one-or-two semester advanced accounting course, including partnerships, business combinations and consolidated financial statements. Faculty appreciate the current coverage of FASB and GASB regulations (FASB 141 & 142, GASB 34 &35), the wealth of thorough end-of-chapter material, and the in-depth coverage in this shorter length Advanced text. Flexibility is provided by modularly designed parts, each self-contained, that allow instructors to cover only chapters that are appropriate for their class.

GASB and FASB coverage: Text now includes discussion and implications of new GASB Statements 34 & 35 and the new FASB statements 141 and 142 on business combinations and intangible assets. This coverage continues Larsen's tradition of being up-to-date in FASB and GASB coverage.
New Website: There will now be a Website to accompany Modern Advanced Accounting. This website will include updates to the text, PowerPoint slides, the Instructor's Resource Guide, career information, and links to a variety of interesting sites.
Real World Examples: More real world examples are incorporated into the text to engage students and demonstrate the relevance of accounting in the business world.
Unique Organization: The subject matter is broken into five distinct sections that help instructors organize the material while also making it easier for students to learn and retain the presented concepts and procedures. These sections are:
1.Accounting for Partnerships and Branches
2.Business Combinations and Consolidated Financial Statements
3.International Accounting; Reporting of Segments for Interim Periods, and to the SEC
4.Accounting for Fiduciaries
5.Accounting for Nonbusiness Organizations
Annual Report: The appendix to Chapter 13, 'Segments; Interim Reports; Reporting for the SEC,' contains The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc 2000 annual report and quarterly report ending June 30, 2001. Annual and quarterly reports are discussed in that chapter, and students are referred to the appendix to see excerpts.
Financial Report: The 2000 annual report of Norris Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is an appendix to chapter 16, 'Nonprofit Organizations.' This exposes students to a real-world report.
Excellent End-of-Chapter Material: Each chapter contains Review Questions, Exercises, Cases and Problems, and most chapters include one Financial Analysis problem and one ethical case. The Financial Analysis problem is comprehensive, and requires students to utilize multiple concepts to solve the problem. The ethical case, identified by the Ethics icon, will tie into the SEC enforcement actions section in most chapters. Check figures are also provided in the margin next to selected problems and exercises to assist students in solving difficult problems.
Integrated International Coverage: International Accounting Standards are now integrated into chapters rather than only being covered in a single chapter dealing with international accounting. This allows students to compare the international standards directly to the U.S. standards. There is still an international chapter, Chapter 12, that contains an illustration of Euro currency.
Ethics Icon: This icon makes it easy to identify cases and areas in the chapter that deal with ethics.
Emphasis on Case Studies: These cases in the end-of-chapter material involve analytical and conceptual thinking on both accounting and ethical issues, some of which require students to research suggested references or the internet.
Reputation: Jack Larsen is well respected and has a reputation of providing up-to-date accounting standards.
