From the Publisher

Chapter 1 now includes a more detailed discussion of the other subfields of anthropology in relation to cultural anthropology.
Based on suggestions from users of Mirror for Humanity, a new chapter, Chapter 3, Ethnicity and Race, replaces the first edition's two chapters, Race (Ch. 3) and Ethnicity (Ch. 4), providing a condensed discussion of these topics.
Updated to include treatment of current topics, such as "ebonics" and cyberspace in Chapter 4 and modern religions in Chapter 10.
The placement of certain chapters has been changed to enhance continuity and achieve a better fit with the way most people seem to teach introductory cultural anthropology. Religion now comes later in the book (Chapter 10), and the text now closes with Applied Anthropology (Ch. 14) to give students a sense of the various branches and career options in anthropology.
Unique Chapters: Mirror for Humanity has three important chapters not consistently found in cultural anthropology texts: "Ethnicity and Race" (Ch.3), "Gender" (Ch.9), and "Cultural Exchange, Creativity, and Survival" (Ch.12). These chapters explore the nature, role, and preservation of human diversity in the face of globalization.
"Issues Boxes" illustrate points with examples familiar to students and give students an opportunity to explore anthropology's relevance to their own lives. Some boxes examine current events or debates, such as Church and State (Ch.10). Others are personal accounts, which add human feeling to the subject matter.
A glossary defining terms boldfaced in each chapter is found at the end of the book, along with a bibliography of references cited.
