Richard J. Semiatin, Ph.D American University, Assistant Professor of Government is a current Co-Chair of the Washington Semester Program Faculty at American University. Dr. Semiatin specializes in campaigns, elections, and federal/state child support enforcement. He has been teaching the Seminar in American Politics and the Research Project class since 1991. Dr. Semiatin has served as Chair of the Washington Semester Faculty (1996-1998) and Co-Chair (2000-2001). He has also been nominated by students in the School of Public Affairs for “Professor of the Year” (2001). Semiatin was one of 21 professors selected in a national search by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching to participate in its Political Engagement Project (PEP). The PEP seeks to engage more students in the study and participation of politics. Dr. Semiatin has been published in academic and professional journals and written monographs for McGraw-Hill on the 1998, 2000 and 2002 election campaigns. He is also a contributing editor to Netpulse the magazine of campaigns and the internet. Many of his former students are now professional political consultants or staff on national campaigns for Democrats and Republicans. Semiatin has been interviewed by national and international media including: CNN, NBC News, MSNBC, Fox News, BBC, UNIVISION, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Baltimore Sun, National Public Radio, the Associated Press, Reuters News Service and Knight-Ridder newspapers.
