Even if you have some experience with Cisco wide area networks (WANs), you'd be well advised to pick up a book like CCNP: Building Cisco Remote Access Networks Study Guide. It explains the material you'll be tested on in absolute terms (meaning you can also use it as an on-the-job resource), but it also supplements the explanations with test-specific sections that show you how the material is likely to appear on the exam. This combined approach is good in that it will prepare you for both the content and the form of the exam.

The book often makes side comments on, for example, what interpretation of debatable issues is likely to be considered "right" in an exam question. Each chapter concludes with exam-like multiple-choice questions, which are followed by explanations of why the answer is what it is. Exercises make up some of the most useful parts of this book.
