Robert J. Sousa (Shutesbury, MA) holds a Ph.D. in fisheries science from the University of Rhode Island. He is a Certified Fisheries Scientist for the American Fisheries Society and worked in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for more than 30 years. A fly fisher for 50 years, he has fished extensively in Alaska, Argentina, the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, the Caribbean, Japan, and New Zealand. He is certified as an angling instructor by the International Game Fishing Association and endorsed as a fly fishing instructor by the fly tackle industry. He is a pro-team member of several fly-fishing tackle companies, a board member of the Alliance of Fly Fishing Educators, a founding member of Bonefish and Tarpon Unlimited, a charter member of the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, and a board member and secretary of the Future Fisherman Foundation. Mr. Sousa developed the Fly Fishing Merit Badge for the Boy Scouts of America and wrote the manual that accompanies that badge. He is Vice Chair, National Jamboree and Venturing Fly Fishing Committee, Boy Scouts of America, and was the director of the 2005 National Boy Scout Jamboree Fly Fishing Venue.
