The results of a fascinating and surprising five-year study on the power of emotional resilience that shows readers how to tap into their inner strength to make it through the tough times in their lives.
About the Book
Why can some of us handle life's greatest trials with ease while others become burdened by the slightest inconveniences? The answer is resilience. For the past five years, Dr. Ubel and a team of leading psychologists and behavioral economists have studied thousands of cases of people who have been diagnosed with terminal diseases and have faced other horrible medical setbacks. YOU'RE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK answers why some of these people not only survive but thrive in the face of adversity and why other people crumble. It also teaches readers what they can do to tap into their own emotional strength and learn how to become resilient during the difficult times of their lives.
Dr. Ubel's studies of these physically challenged people have uncovered many of the “mechanisms of resilience” - the conscious and subconscious ways people shift their goals and expectations in order to overcome adversity. And these studies reveal that most people are unaware of the power of their own untapped emotional resilience. More importantly, Dr. Ubel and his team identify many of the traits and behavior patterns of the most resilient people they've come across and offer specific and easy-to-follow advice on how all of us can become more emotionally stronger to face difficult times.
