About the Authors
Dr. Ubel is uniquely qualified to write this book, being not only a physician, but also a researcher and authority on how people respond to chronic illness and disability. Currently a Professor of Medicine and Psychology at the University of Michigan, he is also director of the Program for Improving Healthcare Decisions. He is an internationally recognized researcher and writer, and has won many awards for my research, including a Presidential Award for Scientists and Engineers from President Clinton. He has written well over 100 scientific articles, which have been published in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Health Psychology, and the Annals of Internal Medicine. He is frequently called upon by the NIH to offer his scientific expertise, and he currently holds over five million dollars of federal funding to conduct his research.
