For anyone responsible for making hiring decisions, the interview process can seem daunting. In addition to knowing what questions to ask, you have to actually know how to interpret the answers you receive. If a candidate says she is good at multi-tasking, does that mean she'll thrive in a busy office or that she isn't good at focusing--or even that she isn't good at coming up with creative answers? If a candidate says he plays sports in his free time, does that mean he is a great team player or that he might be too aggressive - or even that he might be too focused on his extracurricular activities? According to hiring consultants and Licensed Clinical Psychologists Sander Marcus and Jotham Friedland, there are clues that indicate how capable candidates are at doing any job in every answer they give. In The Manager's Big Book of Interview Questions and Answers, Marcus and Friedland introduce five classic motivational types based on their research and explain the pros and cons of how each style operates in the workplace. The authors, who have been featured in The Chicago Tribune, Crain's Chicago Business, HR Magazine, and other media, provide basic instruction on interviewing and show managers how to determine each candidate's motivational style. Through answers to 201 sample questions--and answers--they show readers how achievers and underachievers in each motivational style respond. Hiring managers receive questions and answers for several categories, including: Past experience; Knowledge of the job, company, and industry; Skills, strengths, and talents; Accomplishments and achievements; Weaknesses and shortcomings; Personality factors related to the job By knowing which candidates have given the best answers, managers can now hire winners every time.
