From the Publisher

"Have You Ever Wondered" boxes at the beginning of most chapters illustrate important statistical principles that will be covered in the chapter and lead the student on a quest to answer the questions posed. Examples of subjects covered include the stock market, public opinion polls, and the accuracy of HIV tests.
Real-world examples and exercises use referenced, real data in a variety of settings that are applicable to a wide variety of disciplines.
Uses and misuses of statistics covered in chapter 2 show students how statistical graphics, such as histograms and stem-and-leaf diagrams, are used both correctly and incorrectly in the media and around us.
Each chapter contains a selection of projects for students to work on alone or in groups. These projects give students the opportunity to gather their own data and write their own reports.
Flexibly organized, this text places computational procedures in highlighted boxes apart from the body of the text, so you can decide if you want to cover them or not.
Calculators and computers allow students to perform statistical computations in a variety of ways. Output from some of the more popular software packages is used to display data and graphics where appropriate in the text. Upon request, adopters of the book will receive a basic statistics package by the author.
