9780070322516: Feminist Frameworks

Synopsis

Written by leading scholars in feminist theory, "Feminist Frameworks" was one of the first anthologies in its field and, in the third edition, remains on the cutting edge. Comprehensive, the book covers current issues, problems, theory, and historical texts regarding the oppression of women. With the third edition comes a new section, "Why Theory?" in Part II, explaining the value of feminist theory. Also, the emerging areas of multicultural feminism and global feminism are covered in Part IV. Introductions to each major theme expose students to the readings in a meaningful context.

About the Author

Alison M. Jaggar is Professor of Philosophy and Women's Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has also taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of California at Los Angeles, and Rutgers University, where she held the Laurie New Jersey Chair in Women's Studies. Her books include Feminist Politics and Human Nature and Gender/Body/Knowledge: Feminist Reconstruction of Being and Knowing, coedited with Susan R. Bordo. Currently she is working on two books, Living with Contradictions: Moral Controversies in Feminism, and Toward a Feminist Conception of Practical Reason. Jaggar was a founder member of the Society for Women in Philosophy and is past chair of the American Philosophical Association Committee on the Status of Women. She works with local feminist organizations and sees feminist scholarship as inseparable from feminist activism. Paula S. Rothenberg is Director of The New Jersey Project: Integrating the Scholarship on Gender, a statewide curriculum transformation project, and is Professor of Philosophy and Women's Studies at The William Patterson College of New Jersey where she has taught since 1969. She serves on the Advisory Board of the New Jersey Multicultural Studies Project and is a former Regional Coordinator of the National Women's Studies Association Mid-Atlantic Region. Rothenberg is the coeditor of Philosophy Now and Ethics in Perspective and the author of Race, Class, and Gender in the United States. Her articles and essays appear in journals and anthologies in philosophy, women's studies, education, and African-American Studies. She has also lectured and consulted on multicultural and gender curriculum transformation at colleges and universities across the country.
