9780070051621: Revision de Grammaire (Collage)

Synopsis

This edition consists of three volumes - a review grammar, a cultural reader and a literary reader - that are co-ordinated by theme and by language, chapter by chapter, across all three books. The organization means that the topics, the language and the structures covered in, for example, Chapter Three of the review grammar are the same as those covered in Chapter Three of either the cultural or literary reader. This format allows instructors to use any of the texts by themselves or in conjunction with one another. The practice material in the "Collage" programme progresses systematically within each grammar point. Students first complete very focused and controlled exercises to establish their understanding of a grammar structure, then they proceed to open, communicative activities where they can practise using the structure in a more conversational context. In order to give intermediate students maximum exposure to French language, all of the "Collage" programme, with the exception of the vocabulary lists, is completely in French. In "Revision de Grammaire", 4th edition, the presentation of grammar has been streamlined. The material that is essential for second-year students has all been retained, but is covered in less detail than in previous editions. The new design includes improved charts and tables and new graphic elements designed to make the information more accessible. In addition, new grammar summaries in the margins of the text provide a quick and convenient review and reference features for students.

From the Publisher

The 3 volumes of the COLLAGE program are linked by theme, by vocabulary, and by grammar points. The organization means that the topics, the language, and the structures covered in, for example, Chapter 3 of the review grammar are the same as those covered in Chapter 3 of either the cultural or literary reader. This format allows instructors to use any text by itself in conjunction with one another. The RéVISION DE GRAMMAIRE can be used by itself for a one term grammar review, either the LECTURES LITTéRAIRES or the VARIéTéS CULTURELLES can stand alone as a reader, or instructors can use the grammar with one or both of the readers.

In keeping with current theory, the practice material in the COLLAGE program progresses very systematically within each grammar point. Students first complete very focused and controlled exercises to establish their understanding of a grammar structure, then they proceed to open, communicative activities where they can practice using the structure in a more conversational context.

In order to give intermediate students maximum exposure to French language, all of the COLLAGE program, with the exception of the vocabulary lists, is in French.
The new 4th edition of COLLAGE looks very different with a beautiful new design which makes the books more attractive and makes important material easier to find.

In response to the suggestion of adopters, material that was formerly in a separate CONVERSATION/ACTIVITéS book has been redistributed among the other three volumes.

COLLAGE now introduces students to aspects of the francophone world and its various cultures in all 3 volumes of the program.

In COLLAGE: RéVISION DE GRAMMAIRE, 4th EDITION, the presentation of the grammar has been streamlined. The material that is essential for second year students has all been retained but is covered in less detail than in previous editions.

The new design includes improved charts and tables and new graphic elements which make the information more accessible and more memorable for students. In addition, new grammar summaries in the margins of the text provide a quick and convenient review and reference feature for students.

The practice material in the RéVISION DE GRAMMAIRE contains a greater quantity and variety of communicative activities than in the third edition, enabling instructors to create a more proficiency-oriented classroom. Also for the ease of the professor, the material following each grammar point has been divided into 2 distinct sections of exercises and activities. "Mise au point" sections are first and contain form-focused grammar practice. They are followed by "Mise en pratique" sections which consist of creative and open-ended activities. Among the variety of new types of activities, instructors will find: "Jeu d'équipe"(Team play-offs): "Sondage"(Surveys); and"Trouvez quelqu'un qui..."(Find someone who...). Each of these types of activities will be designated by an easy-to-spot icon or symbol.
COLLAGE: VARIéTéS CULTURELLES, 4th EDITION is a brand new book. Because of the importance of currency in cultural material, every single reading is new to this edition.

All of the readings in the VARIéTéS CULTURELLES are from such authentic sources as magazines. newspapers, and the like, and were selected specifically for their appropriateness and their interest for intermediate students. The readings present topics currently under discussion in France and the francophone world, designed to stimulate student discussion.

A thoroughly revised art program now includes up-to-date realia and beautiful full color photographs.

A new section called "Mise en route" precedes each reading and prepares students by providing them with tips and hints for reading more successfully.

Post-reading material for each selection now includes 2 sets of questions, the first to check comprehension, followed by a variety of lively, interactive activities.

Twelve of the 25 readings in COLLAGE: LECTURES LITTéRAIRES are new to this edition. The new readings include selections by women and by francophone authors as well as texts that are both more interesting and more accessible to intermediate students.

Pre-reading material has been strengthened and several new types of pre-reading activities have been added. In the first 6 chapters, sections call "Lire en français" teach students general skills and strategies for reading in French. In chapters 7-12, sections called "Lire la littérature" give students specific help for understanding literary works.

In addition, each reading is now preceded by a brief new section called "Mise en route", which links some aspect of the reading to students' own lives, making the literary selection more personal and less formidable. Post-reading material, follow-up questions and activities have been simplified to help students find the main ideas in the readings.
