An assembly of cartoons of us humans --- both as overly confident strutters and when we fret over matters large or small, accompanied w/brief captions. William Steig's (1907 in New York City -2003 in Boston) illustrations were regularly featured in the New Yorker from 1930. Known for the picture book Shrek! --- prepared for children when he was 61 years old! --- was adapted to film, & precursor to Sylvester & the Magic Pebble, Abel's Island, and Doctor De Soto. For the adult audience of the New Yorker, Steig contributed some 2,600 drawings, 117 magazine front covers, with cartoon character, Poor Pitiful Pea, translated into a popular line of dolls in 1956.
