From the Author

There's a serial murderer at work, but nobody knows it...
The frightening thing about THE BAD THING in my opinion is that the serial murderer, a cunning mountain man, has been at work for 20 years without being detected. His victims simply disappear from shopping malls in the heavily populated urban areas adjoining his Pennsylvania mountain hideaway. But the murderer, who operates out of an abandoned grand hotel on a mountain lake has a darker secret than that: What he does to his young female victims after he has lured them to him ensures that they will be with him forever. When a young couple buys the old hotel and the man disappears, his best friend, a professional government assassin whose life was changed when his first love disappeared in these same mountains, slowly pieces together the mystery and ends up engaging the killer in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Plenty scary. while reading THE BAD THING my New York book editor called me from her lonely weekend retreat in the Adirondacks to report that she had not slept all weekend. I loved that.
