C. S. Lewis said everything he wrote was influenced by George MacDonald. According to Lewis, there is "hardly any other writer who seems to be closer, or more continuously close, to the Spirit of Christ Himself." Writing a preface and selecting MacDonald's most poignant passages, Lewis introduces us to these extraordinary treasures. Ranging from "Inexorable Love" to "The Torment of Death," these words will instruct and uplift.

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics in The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures.
George MacDonald (1824-1905) was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Briefly a clergyman, then a professor of English literature at Bedford and King's College in London, he was a popular lecturer and published poetry, stories, novels, and fairy tales. In this collection selected by C. S. Lewis, we are offered 365 selections from MacDonald's inspiring and useful writings. C. S. Lewis wrote the following about George Macdonald, 'I know hardly any other writer who seems to be closer, or more continually close, to the Spirit of Christ Himself!' Lewis offers 365 selections from MacDonald's work, ranging from 'Inexorable Love' to 'The Torment of Death.' These wise words will instruct, uplift, and provide indispensable help toward the very acceptance of Christian faith.
