Synopsis
This enduring Japanese classic was written by one of the earliest women novelists in the world. Lady Murasaki was born about AD 998 and kept a diary, which still exists, of the years 1007-1010. This book was read aloud to the Emperor of Japan in 1008. Lady Murasaki herself was part of the Emperor's court until 1025.
