Stated First American Edition / First Printing. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Minor self rubbing, else near fine. Interior has pgs 193-200 moderately creased, else interior is clean and tight. Unclipped DJ is lightly rubbed, small tear at bottom of front panel, else near fine in mylar sleeve. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Well, these guys, on the way to the front in Normandy after D-Day, got bogged down with operations carried out by the Resistance. The Marquis, with the help of SOE and OSS gave these SS Nazis a tough time, including blowing things up, killing Germans and delaying the German's response up to repel the invasion, and capturing an SS battalion commander. So, in response the Germans resorted to mass murder; not the normal kind of mass murder using a bullet to the head, they felt the need to shoot to wound and burn the men in some barns. For the women and children, they burned them in the village church, shooting any who made it out. In total, 642 men, women, and children were murdered. The village of Oradour-Sur-Glane, was not rebuilt after the war, instead DeGaulle decided it should be a permanent memorial to those who died and survived and to the cruelty of the Nazi cooupation.
