For introductory courses in New Testament at the undergraduate or seminary (theological school) level.
Anatomy of the New Testament requires students to read the New Testament for themselves, while providing a framework and background for doing so. Students learn at the outset something about the origin and purpose of each New Testament writing, but are invited by leading questions to test everything against the text itself.
The authors wrote Anatomy of the New Testament because most beginning students have never read the New Testament, or have read it without thinking critically about its character and purpose. By engaging specific and representative texts, students are encouraged to read thoughtfully and ask appropriate questions about the New Testament.

"Having used Anatomy of the New Testament in introductory courses at a wide variety of both public and private universities, I welcome the new edition enthusiastically. Anatomy has always provided undergraduates with a strong mix of background information, textual annotation, and exegesis, that brought students into serious and sustained conversation with the biblical text. The new edition continues that tradition, and will bring the best of current academic study of the New Testament to a new generation of students."
-Professor James R. Mueller, University of Florida
