Synopsis
The Budapest Gambit (1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 e5) is an underrated system which leads to lively play and attacking chances for Black. The positional justification, establishing a strong knight on e5 is well-founded and attempts at refutation have been unconvincing. The author provides original analyses and over 30 illustrative games which allow the reader to get a feel for the types of middle game positions which arise. The Fajarowicz Gambit (3 de Ne4) is also covered. International Master Otto Borik is a former West German champion who played in the 1978 Olympiad team. He is editor of the chess magazine "64". This book is part of the "Batsford Gambit Series" which has been designed to meet the needs of the competitive player. Each volume deals with a particular opening and the early attempts to obtain sharp and interesting play by a pawn sacrifice. All the authors are International Masters and Grandmasters.
