In 'The Heart of the Buddha's Path' the Dalai Lama describes in a clear and simple style how to bring wisdom and compassion into our daily lives. He explores the fundamentals of the Buddha's teaching, from basic advice on how to deal with anger and other emotions to the importance of compassion,
Based on talks given by the Dalai Lama in London,' The Heart of the Buddha's Path' includes the text of the Dalai Lama's first extensive discourse in the West on the subject of the Four Noble Truths, which are the essence of Buddhist teaching. The four truths include the truth of suffering, the truth of the origin of suffering, the end of suffering and the path leading to the end of suffering. Without understanding these fundamental teachings, says the Dalai Lama, it is impossible to practice Buddhism. He then goes on to explain how vital it is to develop our compassion and offers practical advice on how to combine a spiritual path with the demands of modern life.
“Genuine compassion is based on a clear acceptance or recognition that others, like oneself, want happiness and have the right to overcome suffering. On that basis one develops concern about the welfare of others, irrespective of their attitude to oneself. That is compassion.” – His Holiness the Dalai Lama
