In a new, final chapter Starkey brings his study to the present day, examining the iconic role of Victoria and her controversial successors; concluding with Elizabeth II and questions of what we have gained, or indeed lost, through the monarchy, and considering the troubled status of their future.

About the Author
David Starkey is the Bye Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and the author of ‘Elizabeth: The Struggle for the Throne’. A winner of the W. H. Smith Prize and the Norton Medlicott Medal for Services to History presented by Britain's Historical Association, Mr. Starkey lives in London.
