From the Back Cover

Millions have shared the unforgettable story of the waif Cosette, adopted daughter of Jean Valjean in Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables'. Now the tale of Cosette continues in this exhilarating novel.

Safe from threat, Cosette and her great love, Marius Pontmercy, are at last able to marry. Together they publish a radical newspaper, 'La Lumiere', which is at the centre of the Revolution of 1848 that topples the monarchy. At first embraced by the Republic, and then betrayed by it, Cosette and Marius must once again take to the barricades to defend it, only to meet with disastrous defeat. Penniless, alone, with her family divided, Cosette must go into hiding, and live once more among rag pickers' hovels and brothels in crooked alleys.

But Cosette's' spirit is not broken: she has risen from squalor before and she will find a way to do so again. With an indomitable spirit, shaped by revolutionary music, cannon blasts, the decadence of the Second Empire and, above all, the single flame of a true and lasting love, the waif Cosette is transformed into a legend.

‘Captures the original's defiant, tragic spirit.’
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

‘'Cosette' is a tale of love and betrayal, power and oppression, passion and illusion – a sweeping historical epic.’
