The Background

New research, known as the SPACE (Science Processes and Concept Exploration) Project, revealed the need for a new approach to teaching and learning science.

The findings revealed children have their own ideas about science and using these ideas as a starting point is the best way to teach science effectively.

• Clear Teacher’s Guides provide comprehensive guidance for the non-specialist teacher.

• Colourful Pupil Books support the teaching and learning.
• Teaches science in the most effective way – starting from children’s own ideas.
There are three Pupil Books for each of the 11 themes, one for ages 5 to 7, one for ages 7 to 9 and one for ages 9 to 12. These support and extend the work in the Teachers’ Guides.

Each Pupil Book features:
• stimulus spreads to act as starting points for discussion
• information spreads providing secondary source material
• activities to form the basis of investigations
