A BRAND NEW SERIES OF FAST-MOVING, GOAL-GRABBING SOCCER CELEBRATIONS
A Geordie through and through, Alan Shearer began his football career down south before making a euphoric, and pricey, return to his birthplace.
The youngest-ever player to score a First Division hat-trick, Shearer's career has leapt from strength to strength. Although dogged by regular agonising injuries, he still manages to deliver the goods every time.
By the age of 27, Geordie-born Alan Shearer was one of the most successful footballers Britain has ever seen. The fans' favourite whoever he plays for, Shearer has also gained glory playing for, and captaining, the England squad and was deemed worthy of the largest transfer fee ever paid for a footballer – in 1996 Newcastle United paid £15 million to bring their favourite son home.
Shearer began his career at the age of 14, with Southampton's Associate Schoolboys. In 1992, he was snapped up by a gloating Blackburn Rovers for a cool £3.3 million – four years later Blackburn mourned as Shearer returned to his native Newcastle and 20,000 cheering fans. A superb performance in Euro 96 has made him a household name for football followers and non-fans alike. Newcastle's baby-faced maestro has the world at his feet.
