This book is a memoir of Nicholas T. Constandelis's adventures during World War II, from his induction into the US Army/Air Force to ultimately flying 35 combat missions over Japanese targets. While being both historically accurate and well documented, this book is a personal account of everything of interest that went on, what my father saw, felt, and thought during those harrowing times. We have tried to communicate the total experience of th War from a young and inexperienced GI's viewpoint, and have shared both the humorous and horrific details of the experience. The book contains many black-and-white photographs.
Peter Constandelis, 54-year-old son of Nicholas Constandelis, is a self-employed businessman who, upon reading the first several paragraphs of his father's memoirs, decided to give him a hand at reorganizing and rewriting the manuscript. As a young man he did well in high school and college writing courses, but pursued a career in salves, preferring the camaraderie of working with others to the solitude of a writer's life, though he has enjoyed writing this work. He is married, lives in suburban NJ, and has two lovely daughters and a cat.
Nicholas T. Constandelis, who memoirs these are, was born in Paterson, NJ, in 1921, the son of an immigrant dye-house worker. He served in the US Army/Air Force during World War II, stationed in the China-Burma-India Theatre. In this book, I recount my father's memories of service in the Pacific, including many harrowing bombing missions over Japanese targets as well as several lighthearted moments both in this country and abroad. Retired today, my father both fondly and gratefully looks back on his years of war service, contemplating the ways in which those years helped to make him into the man he is today.
