Synopsis:

From the editor of "Harper's" magazine in New York comes an assemblage of his satirical writings. Lapham contends that the downfall of American satire has to do with the depressing influence of world supremacy. In the pieces that comprise the publication, he reduces to absurdity many of the portentous topics of the day, experimenting with satire in its several forms - as burlesque, pasquinade, invective and deadpan jest.
