Whether you are living with chronic illness or care about someone who is, it is important to remember that people are more than their pain.
While there are vastly diverse chronic illnesses and varying levels of chronic pain, numerous characteristics and experiences overlap. Navigating your way through the limitations and suffering can be discouraging. In addition to the symptoms themselves, the stigmas and misconceptions may seem insurmountable. This book aims to be an easy and informal read while wading through a wide range of topics including the following:
- Invisible Illnesses and Cost
- Guilt and Loneliness
- Fatigue and Brain Fog
- Pacing and Lifestyle
- Prevalence, Support, and so much more
"Casey Chaffey offers more than just a how-to guide for chronic pain and chronic illness sufferers. Readers will find plenty of helpful information in this short guide, but they will also encounter empathy from someone who understands what they are going through and hope for better care and treatment. While I don't deal with chronic pain or illness personally, I treat patients every day who do, and reading Casey's book has taught me to have more compassion for people with invisible illnesses. If you or someone you know has chronic pain or illness, this book is worth your time."
- Steven G., RN Hospice Case Manager
“Casey Chaffey does an outstanding job articulating the struggles of living with chronic illness. In this book, she provides much needed validation to the tribulations we endure on a daily basis. Whether you are a patient or close to someone who has a chronic illness, this book is truly a must have. Even as someone who lives with many chronic conditions, I learned interesting things that I didn’t know. The words made me feel heard and not alone. Thank you for providing such understandable content on a hard topic. I most definitely recommend 30 Days to Understanding Chronic Illness and Pain as it’s so easy and understandable to read.”
- Rachael W., Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, POTS, adrenal insufficiency, spinal instability, tethered cord, intracranial hypertension
“Facing life with chronic illness or pain can feel like being forced to move to a foreign country where everything is different and uncomfortable, you don’t understand the lingo, and you’re desperately homesick for your old way of life. Far from an exciting adventure, you can quickly become overwhelmed and lack the brain power to figure out how to cope with your limitations. Casey Chaffey is a gracious guide for your journey, coming alongside fellow sufferers with this easily-readable book. Each short chapter is packed with informative stats and definitions, practical ideas, and understanding encouragement. Caregivers and friends of the chronically ill will also find this a valuable read, as Casey gives an insightful peek into the mental and emotional burdens that are an inescapable part of daily life for those who can no longer trust their bodies. Perhaps most importantly, this book is a heartening reminder that you are not alone on this often-bewildering trek into the unknown: hope and help are here.”
- Abigail W., adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalance, and scoliosis
