Rishaan Finch is twelve, restless, and far too observant for the comfort of the adults around him. He’s grown up between embassies and battlefields, with a British war hero for a grandfather and a father who just might be more than a diplomat. It’s early 1939, and London is blanketed in snow—and denial. But when Rishaan picks up a ringing telephone in a locked attic, he’s suddenly holding a message meant for a spy. Now he’s chasing coded clues through frozen streets and foggy backrooms, delivering intelligence to Winston Churchill, and watching Zeppelins drift just out of reach over the English Channel. The grown-ups say there’s no war coming. Rishaan knows better—and he’s in too deep to back out. Rishaan is about to learn what it really means to be brave. Because some messages can’t wait, some adults can’t be trusted—and sometimes, it takes a kid to see what others refuse to. 1939 is a gripping historical spy thriller for young readers—full of codebreaking, close calls, and the real-world tension of a world on the brink.
