Add to basket12.25 x 14.5" red scrapbook with embossed floral framing on the front cover, a golden diamond in the center, and the words "Scrap Book" in gold. The scrapbook is string-bound, but several pages have come loose from the string. Contains around 258 black and white photos from 1918 to around 1920 measuring between 1.25 x 1.5" and 9.75 x 7.75" which are affixed to the pages with corner tabs or tape. The photos are accompanied by handwritten annotations identifying people and places, with some photos containing comments on the back. There appear to be about 5 photos missing and several have come loose from the pages. Photos largely depict Loxterman's crewmates, who include Joe Page, Joe Knatz, John Brown, and Keith Comedian; and there are plenty of photos of the ship to which Loxterman was assigned, presumably the U.S.S. Aeolus. There are a handful of especially exciting photos from a storm at sea, the torpedoed U.S.S. Covington near Brest, France, and the first transatlantic flight of the NC-4 near the Azores. Along with these thrilling images are photos of boot camp, Washington, D.C., Horta, Azores, and Brest, France. The largest image in the album shows President Calvin Coolidge speaking with a man at the Naval Hospital. Towards the back of the album are newspaper clippings which include an article entitled "Alcoholics Anonymous Drove Me to Drink" by Homer Shannon, an article on the death of Earle E. Comer, and one about Jacob Volkwein. Attached to the inside front cover of the scrapbook is a typed document which reads: "SPECIFICATION OF AN OFFENSE PREFERRED AGAINST ANDREW F. LOXTERMAN, SEAMAN SECOND CLASS, U. S. NAVAL RESERVE FORCE. SPECIFICATION: In that Andrew F. Loxterman, seaman second class, U.S. Naval Reserve Force, having been granted liberty from his station and duty on board the U.S.S. AEOLUS, at a port in the country of France, to which ship he had been regularly assigned, said liberty to expire at 9:30 p.m., December 14, 1918, did fail to return to his station and duty as aforesaid upon the expiration of said liberty, and did remain absent therefrom, without leave from proper authority, for a period of about two days and thirty minutes, at the expiration, of which he surrendered himself on board the aforesaid ship, the United States then being in a state of war. APPROVED: December 25, 1918.
