Moderate toning, rough binding edge, contents clean and complete. Federal Request to Move Indian Agency Due to Poor Conditions and Safety Issues This 3-page 1873 report documents a request of $25,000 to relocate the Cheyenne River Indian Agency from its site at the Missouri River’s mouth to a safer, healthier location within the Sioux reservation. The report includes estimates for rebuilding and firsthand accounts from Agent Theo. M. Jones. The agency’s buildings were badly constructed and prone to flooding. The location was overcrowded and unsafe, leading to health risks and storage problems. This document records a straightforward appeal for relocation funds to protect both supplies and tribal members living near the agency.
