POZZO, Andrea (1642?1709). Rules and Examples of Perspective Proper for Painters and Architects, etc. In English and Latin. London: Printed by Benjamin Motte; sold by John Sturt, 1707.
Large Folio volume, measuring 41.5 cm x 28 cm.
The First English Edition of the most influential manual on Baroque illusionism. Translated by John James of Greenwich, this edition is a landmark of British architectural publishing. It is famously preceded by a "Recommendation" by the three giants of English Baroque architecture: Christopher Wren, John Vanbrugh, and Nicholas Hawksmoor. Dedicated to Queen Anne, whereas the original Italian edition of 1693 was dedicated to Emperor Leopold I.
Features approximately 200 historiated engraved initial letters throughout the text.
Text: Parallel columns in English and Latin.
Binding: Bound in contemporary half calf (leather spine and corners) with paper-covered boards. The spine features six raised bands and is decorated with gilt lettering and tooling. A picture speaks a thousand words, so I have uploaded 20 images, so that's 20.000 words :). Seller Inventory # 000432
