Paperback. What kind of king do God's people truly need? The book of 1 Samuel records one of the most important transitions in Israel's history. It begins with Hannah's anguished prayer and Samuel's call to hear the Word of the Lord. It follows Israel's demand for a king, Saul's promising rise and tragic decline, and the anointing of David-the overlooked shepherd whom God chooses for the throne. Discover the Book: 1 Samuel offers a clear, accessible, and biblically faithful guide to this compelling Old Testament book. It explores: why 1 Samuel matters and where it belongs within the Bibleits historical setting, authorship, purpose, and structureits principal themes and what it reveals about Godhow the book points forward to Jesus Christits key people, places, and eventsdifficult passages and questions readers often askhow its message should shape Christian faith and life todayWritten for thoughtful Christians, new believers, small groups, and individual readers, this volume explains Scripture carefully without becoming academic or technical. It examines the contrast between outward appearance and inward character, the difference between religious activity and true obedience, and the dangers of fear, jealousy, self-protection, and misused authority. First Samuel introduces memorable figures such as Hannah, Eli, Samuel, Saul, Jonathan, Abigail, and David. Their lives show that giftedness is not the same as godliness, leadership remains accountable to God's Word, and His promises must never be pursued through sinful means. Above all, 1 Samuel reveals the limitations of every human ruler and creates a longing for the perfectly obedient and everlasting King. That longing finds its fulfilment in Jesus Christ, the true Anointed One, victorious Saviour, and Son of David.
