Paperback. Discover the Book, Volume 11: 1 Kings offers a clear, accessible, and Christ-centred guide to one of the most important turning points in Israel's history. First Kings begins with David's final days and Solomon's accession to the throne. It records Solomon's remarkable wisdom, the building and dedication of the temple, and the prosperity of the united kingdom. Yet beneath the splendour lies a growing spiritual danger. Solomon's heart becomes divided, the kingdom is torn in two, false worship takes root, and later kings repeatedly reject the Word of the Lord. Against this background, prophets such as Elijah and Micaiah stand courageously before rulers, exposing idolatry, injustice, and spiritual compromise. Their ministry shows that kings may command armies and control institutions, but they remain accountable to God. This volume explores the historical setting, authorship, structure, major themes, character of God, key people, places, events, and difficult questions found in 1 Kings. It also explains how the book points forward to Jesus Christ - the greater Son of David, the King greater than Solomon, the embodiment of perfect wisdom, and the faithful ruler whose kingdom will never end. Written for thoughtful Christians, new believers, small groups, and individual readers, this book will help you understand 1 Kings within the wider story of Scripture and recognise its enduring call to wholehearted worship, faithful obedience, and confidence in the sovereign purposes of God.
