Print on Demand. This book examines the impact of the French Revolution on agriculture between 1789 and 1815. The book contends that while the well known ideals of the revolution had positive effects, the excesses that occurred from 1792 onwards resulted in a decline of agricultural improvements. The 4th of August saw the abolition of feudal rights, hunting and fishing restrictions and the suppression of certain church tithes. Additionally, the revolutionary government passed laws establishing freedom of trade in grain and wine and abolished all professional guilds, except a few. The author presents a nuanced analysis of the long-term outcomes of these changes. The abolition of feudal rights, initially welcomed by peasants, resulted in many losing access to common lands, while the uncompensated abolition of tithes deprived rural clergy of much of their income. The confiscation and sale of church lands had limited effects on the overall size of landholdings, but it did lead to the loss of jobs in associated industries and increased demand for land. The removal of trade restrictions and guilds had mixed effects. While it led to increased trade and opportunity, it also contributed to the decline of traditional crafts, such as linen production. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
Please also make sure your address is correct before ordering as we will no be able to intervene and make changes before the book is shipped.
We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns
As a small publisher we do not have the facilities to resell returned books, so any returned book will be recycled. If the book is damaged or defective please continue with the return process, and thank you for letting us know so that we can improve our products.
