Black covers with red titles to spine. 1st Edition from 1933 contains 8 stories including Time Machine, Invisible Man, War of the Worlds and the Island of Dr. Moreau. The second book is the Short Stories - Sixth Impression from 1928 in green hard covers, the spine has torn down one side so condition has to be G-. Pages nice and clean and tight. Book Description: London, Victor Gollancz/ Ernest Benn 1935/1948., 1948. Reprints. Hardcovers. Both volumes have some slight top edge foxing, a couple neat ownership signatures/small name stamps, the cloth on the back panel of the first volume is mottled, o/w very good in good unprice-clipped dustjackets with a few small professionally closed tears and restored chips. A handsome, well-bound vintage set which together contain pretty much all Wells's science fiction novels and stories. "Scientific Romances" is the second impression of this edition, published in the same year as the first, with a four-page preface by Wells, and contains complete: The Food of the Gods/ In the Days of the Comet/ The Island of Dr. Moreau/ The War of the Worlds/ The First Men in the Moon/ The Invisible Man/ The Time Machine/ & Men Like Gods, over 1200 pages . The "Short Stories" (a re-set edition of 1948, and an Australian issue of the UK edition) contains Wells's sf/speculative short fiction ("The Time Machine" being the one novella/story the two volumes share in common) as well as his non-SF material, over 1000 pages.
