Title: Pragmatism: A New Name for Some Old Ways of ...
Publisher: New York: Longmans, Green, and Co.,
Publication Date: 1907
Edition: First Edition.
The first edition of this epochal work of American philosophy, with the ownership signature of Juliet Barrett Rublee, Cornish [NH], 1907. (1875-1966), feminist activist and filmmaker. Active in modern dance, Rublee allied with birth control advocate Margaret Sanger, and become one of her most important supporters: their correspondence is preserved at Smith College. A pacificist during WWI, Rublee went on to lead a treasure-seeking expedition in the Mediterranean in the 1920s and to produce FLAME OF MEXICO (1932), believed to be the first American feature film filmed in Mexico. It was likely she who marked a passage on p. 99 of this copy: "When a play is over, and the curtain down, you reall make it no better by claiming an illustrious genius for its author, just as you make it no worse by calling him a comon hack." Rublee's comment: "?" Hinges cracked, some foxing to spine and rubbing to spine label: a very good copy with an interesting association. Bookseller Inventory # 16652
