214 pp. plus 30 pp. local ads Octavo. original red cloth elaborately stamped and lettered in yellow. Many of the advertisements are illustrated and printed on tinted paper. Occasional previous ownership name in ink at top page margins "C. A. Schroder". This name appears at page 165 of the Waco City Directory as "Schroder, Charles A., Plumbing, Steam and Gas fitting. 723 Austin Aven. bds (i. e., Ôboards') Mrs. I. E. Harmon. See advt." His pictorial advertisement adds that he is a "Dealer In All Kinds of Brass And Iron Fittings, Bath Tubs, Water Closets, Chandellers, Pumps, Pipes, Etc.", and also an "Agent for Buckeye Pump and Iron Turbine Wind Engines".The California directories are much collected and quite well-known, however, very few were compiled for Texas in the nineteenth century. These directories are a source for a wealth of information for local contemporary history. The first Waco city directory had been issued in 1876. According to the preface this biennial was first issued in 1878, followed by 1880-1881 and 1886-1887 (none issued by this firm 1882-1885). Today, all are rarely offered for sale. [Not listed by Raines, Howes, Morrison, Jenkins, Cracker Barrel Chronicles, or any other reference sources consulted]. Lacks pp. 103-104 of the General Directory and an advertisement leaf between pp. 194-195. According to the index of advertisers, this would have been for "Wilson, J. T. St. Charles Saloon". Covers a little rubbed at edges and lightly bumped, front hinge a little loose at bottom, albeit a very nice copy. Bookseller Inventory # 25710
